Less cash stress: avoid till discrepancies with cash management
June 14, 2026 · DiKAS Team · 4 min read
Cash isn’t going away – on the contrary, at the counter it’s still part of everyday life. But handling it eats up time: preparing change, counting in between, closing out in the evening, hunting for discrepancies. And every open till is a risk.
Where time and money get lost
- Counting at shift changes and closing – every single day.
- Discrepancies that no one can trace anymore.
- Theft and error risk with an open cash drawer.
- Change shortages during peak times.
The simplest lever: more card payment
Before you start thinking about expensive hardware, it pays to look at the obvious: the more people pay cashless, the less cash you have to count, secure and close out. With DiKAS you accept card payments without your own surcharge – via your own EC terminal (ZVT) at the bank conditions you negotiate yourself. Many businesses effectively run “card-only” or nearly cashless this way and save themselves most of the cash workload.
Every card payment you accept is one coin less in the drawer: no change, no discrepancy, no risk in an open cash drawer.
When a cash machine still pays off
There are businesses where a lot of cash remains unavoidable – beer tents, club festivals, some kiosks or bars. It can also pay off for hygiene reasons: at the meat, cheese or fish counter, staff don’t have to touch cash or constantly disinfect their hands. A cash machine (cash recycler), connected to DiKAS*, accepts coins and notes, pays out change and immediately posts every deposit/withdrawal. The machine counts instead of a person, and closing out becomes a formality.
To be honest: cash machines are expensive to purchase, comparatively exotic and maintenance-intensive. They only pay off with permanently high cash volumes. For most businesses, the route via more card payment is faster, cheaper and less complicated.
